NaNoWriMo...It's heeeerrrreeee...

This will be my first year participating in National Novel Writing Month! I heard of NaNoWriMo a couple of years ago from an author that I enjoy reading. At the time I didn't realize anyone could join. I thought it would be so cool to write a book, a novel, a short story, a letter to my mom, hell  even my own name, just ANYTHING!
At one point I had a though, WOW! wouldn't be so fucking cool to right something profound! HHHMMMM...profound, profound, profound, nope. I got nothing! OK, so the likelihood that me, Read, will actually write something profound, is pretty slim. Alright stop snickering over there, not anywhere close to a hairs breadth. HAHAHA! Right you're surprised I even know what profound means!
**read makes profane gesture**
Anyway!
So not profound, but it could be fun! I used to write all the time and fell out habit. Old people do that from time to time. We forget the things that make us really feel to the tips of our toes. Like your first kiss, first love, or maybe even your first real fight! These things that bring fire and passion into our lives. OK, us oldies still have stuff like that, but it's harder to impress us sometimes.
So without further or due in less than 1 hour we will be kicking of the 2011 NaNoWriMo!
This is not about being profound this about having fun, and challenging yourself to a new adventure!
Let's get ready to RUMPUUUS!

Until next time,

Read's 2nd Happy Hour Hop....

Hi and Welcome to Read' 2nd Happy Hour Hop....
Tonight we are serving margaritas ,and gin & tonics!
This is what Lee and Beth were drinking in the club, while discussing Lee's almost virginity!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
If you had to become a monster to be with the man you loved, would you? Or is that a question you cannot answer? You see, for me the problem was never should I be reborn, but when. That and I knew the moment I saw Ben I would die. Let's be honest, rumors blood drinkers are real have had the world in a grip of terror for years, and I'd always known I was waiting for him. Despite a somewhat excruciating rebirth, and a … well, let’s call it a “disagreement” with the Lycanthropes, I am embracing my new world. I am excited even. But there are ... things about my kind I do not yet know. This frightens me. Whispers of what these creatures really are is one thing, but the reality of what I have chosen to become? That is something else entirely.

Beautiful Damned Novella coming July 2011.
Contains explicit language and sex.

Let's just start off by saying that Penelope Fletcher is an amazing author! She is an absolute genius with the written word.
This was a wonderfully written novella. I love that Lee is stocking her love interest, Ben, in the beginning.

Quote: Lee, you should probably say something so you don't look completely insane. Yes, you have practically stalked the man these past two nights. No? You're saying that was not insanity but merely curiosity? Whatever.

It's beautiful that Lee is perfect the way she is. She's not the super skinny, blue eyed, blond that appears in so many stories. (not that there is anything wrong with that)Lee has her insecurities, as do we all. Penelope does not over do this fact, Lee is mildly insecure, she touches on it a few times and that's it.

Quote: I eye her. "Seriously? My god Beth, you were That Girl in high school who Believed spunk was, "Good for eyes and skin," weren't you?" "That hasn't exactly been unproven now has it?" She Bristles, and I know like the sky is blue that she really was That Girl, and I find that cute as hell.

Lee's best friend, and sometimes lover, Beth is a well written character with many quirks. Beth gets feelings about things that will happen. This "gift" though causes issues for her.

Ben, is a vampire,it's great that he is not over the top or over done. I may be in love with him. **sigh**

Penelope really draws you in with this one, as with her other books. She has created a believable universe for a mythical creature and creatures that I am obsessed with.
Well this the fun stuff... Here is the Humpday Hop... I know it's a bit cheesy. Just like any game there are rules! Use GFC to friend the Host (That's me). Comment, let me know if you are new! (optional) Copy the link to a blog post.

Happy Humpday Happy Hour Hop!!

 Welcome to the Humpday Hop...

Today Read is serving steak tartar, and to drink, human blood!!
I read this over the weekend...it was good.
Christin Lovell was impressive with her take on the vampire, vampeen relationship. Oh, a vampeen is a human vampire high-breed. Yes they are born....jeesh!
From the beginning I HATED Lexi's boyfriend Mike! He constantly called her Babe. What 15 or 16 year old calls their girlfriend Babe constantly! Mike, really is a douchebag!
Lexi herself drove me crazy with her insecurities. She was constantly complaining about how fat she was, or how ugly she felt! Seriously, I realize that this is an issue for many of us, it's an issue for me, but my god girl get a grip!
Kellen, the new boyfriend is wonderful! Well, other then the fact that he is a taker of human life! **snickers** He is NOT a vegan vampire.
Here are some of my favorite quotes! for Diary of a Vampeen

"P.i.a.?""Yea, p.i.a.: puke inducing actions.""Ugh, gross." i felt my face wrinkle in response to her twisted acronym.Lexi and Mel

"I opened the  paper in front of me quietly. it revealed the unimaginable from Kellan. I like you too. Shock and surprise set in quickly. Did I really have a chance with mysterious perfection?"Lexi

Well this the fun stuff...

Read Phoenix's 4th Feature Follow Friday

Welcome to Read Phoenix's 4th Feature Follow Friday! I love this opportunity to check out your blog, see what your doing, and which books you love!
Thanks for Hopping in.

The Feature -Life Between Pages

Hello everyone! My name is Sophie, and I am pretty new to the world of book blogging. I originally started my blog as a way for me to get motivated and start reading the piles of books I have accumulated in my house and never read. I have so many that it started to get confusing!

I must admit that I've been a pretty lazy reader the past few years, and so many of the titles you see me writing about are those that you might be quite familiar with. Don't get me wrong, reading is a great passion of mine, but life has just got in the way. Now though I figure it's time to MAKE more time because, frankly, the books and my blog are so worth it. :-))

Q.If you could have characters from a particular book meet and form an epic storyline with characters from a particular TV series, which would you choose and why?

This is all about hotness...there is nothing cerebral about my answer! Vampire Diaries the book series meets Supernatural the TV series! OMGosh! WHY?! What kind of crazy question is that... it's because they are all so DAMNED HOT!

Here check it out...a little eye candy for you:

 MMMM, Jensen Ackles!

OH, don't forget, I love Ian! Of course, I have to keep the fantasy of the book alive and cast a redhead! **Just like me**

Humpday Happy Hour~ Chicagoland Vampires By Chloe Neill

Today's Happy hour drink is blood in a box from a great blood delivery company Blood4You!

Photobucket

Chicagoland Vampires is my go to series! Chloe Neill has created an excitement with this series that I can not contain. November 1st is the release of the newest edition to the series, Drink Deep. I am squealing, bouncing up and down in my seat like a little kid who needs to pee! Yes, I am excited!!!!!

With out further ado, please have a glass, or a box, of hot blood and check out a few of my favorite Chicagoland Vampire quotes.

“Stop. That was a mistake. It shouldn’t have happened."
No?" "No."
I could offer you more.”
What?”
Power. Access. Rewards. You’d need be available only to me.”
Are you asking me to be your mistress?”
Yes.”
Oh, my God.”
Is that a yes?”
No, Ethan, Jesus. Definitely not.”
― Chloe NeillSome Girls Bite

“Can you at least pretend to be professional today?”
Lindsey stopped, glanced back at Luc. “You show me professional, and I’ll
show you professional.”
Luc snorted, but his expression was gleeful. “Sweetheart, you wouldn’t know
professional if it bit you on the ass.”
“I prefer my bites in other places.”
“Is that an invitation?”
“If only you were so lucky, cowboy.”
“Lucky? Hooking up with me would be the luckiest day of your life, Blondie.”
― Chloe NeillFriday Night Bites

“Dear God,”
“It should be illegal for smug vampires to look that good,” Lindsey said, clucking her tongue.
“That is so true,” I agreed, thinking a little less hotness would make my relationship with Ethan a lot simpler.”
― Chloe NeillTwice Bitten

“Vamps are really only like ten percent fun at any given time. The other ninety percent is largely fretting. And bloodletting.”
― Chloe NeillHard Bitten

Thirst By: Claire Farrell~

ThirstThirst by Claire Farrell
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Part vampire, the only thing greater than Ava Delaney's thirst for human blood is her capacity for guilt. When she accidentally turns a human into her minion, she does her best to set him free - but her attempts land her in the middle of a potential vampire civil war. With the help of some new friends with ambiguous loyalties, Ava tries to save her human . . . and herself.

My Review
This was a good vamp book. Just the kind of snarky sarcastic humor I love. The characters are really great and I was able to pull an image of what I think they look like.
However I didn't really feel there was a lot of detail. With that said... not having to much detail can be an OK thing. I could focus more on the humor, romance, and the "mystery" that is Ava's life!

Ava is a Hot redheaded, half vamp half human. She does not drink blood, so is constantly thirsty. She deals with this thirst by counting, and multiplying things. Mostly human heart beats...can you say OCD?
Ava's mother dies and she is raised by her grandmother. She was treated poorly by her grandmother. How badly you say?...very badly! She is a terrible person kind of bad!
Ava saves Carl, her accidental minion that doesn't always listen. She didn't mean to enthrall him!Ava is constantly trying not to drink Carl's blood! Yeah, he doesn't make it easy.
Peter comes into this because Ava doesn't know how to release Carl. Oh, did I mention, Peter hates vamps. Yet, you can see that maybe he starts to crush on Ava.Yes she has a super crush on him too. Lets, just say he is conflicted.
Ava has no idea what happened to her father, or why her mother new to hide her from the vamps to begin with. Really this is the over all big mystery, oh and by the way its killing me not to close the door on this aspect of Ava's life.
Quote~He gave his bottom lip an absent-minded lick with the tip of his tongue. I let loose a little sigh. "what?" he asked, his lips curving upward into a huge grin.~ Ava and Peter Thirst By: Claire Farrell
MUST READ NEXT BOOK!

Taming The Highland Bride~ Review

Taming the Highland Bride (Devil of the Highlands, #2)Taming the Highland Bride by Lynsay Sands
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
She was ready to let her heart run wild . . . Merry Stewart has had enough! Enough of her brothers, whose behavior would make even the most improper lady blush. Enough of their Highland home, which would surely have fallen to ruin were it not for her. She dreams of escaping into the arms of her betrothed, Alexander d'Aumesbery;even though they haven't yet met. But when they do, Merry is devastated. It seems he's no better than the men in her family.
So beautiful, so brazen . . . From the moment he meets Merry, Alexander is determined to make her his. Desperate to convince her he's nothing like the members of her roguish clan, he will prove he is every bit the well-mannered gentleman. Yet, beneath it all beats a heart as intense and uncontrollable as hers. And finally, when his life is threatened, Merry realizes he's the husband she's been waiting for . . . and their passion becomes the one thing that cannot be tamed.

Read's Review
This is a fast paced romance. Lynsay Sands pulls you in with character struggles and snarky humor, my favorite kind. Merry and Alex have an arranged marriage that he is secretly avoiding due to Merry's lovely nick name The Stewart Shrew. When first they meet she believes Alex is as much a drunk as her 2 brothers and father. Due to this misunderstanding more tension is created. Through all of this drama, someone is trying to kill Alex! Taming the Highland Bride is a bit predictable...but really is a fun read and I enjoyed it!

Q.If you could pick one character in a book, movie or television show to swap places with, who would it be?

I am having a hard time with this one! There are moments I would love to switch with someone. Anita Blake comes to mind. Yes, I would love to have a big puppy pile with some super hot shifters.

I Love when Andrea, her BFF, tells Kate Daniels:  That she took and ate food from Curran's hand, the Pack leader, she is now his mate. Yea, I would have liked to Andrea in that moment!
When you think of all the scary bullshit these sassy, sexy characters go through, you have to roll your eyes sigh and say... Yeah I hate laundry, but it's a little more my speed!
